TIRUPATI: Four persons were injured in the clashes that erupted between villagers and local politicians over drinking water at Kalvabugga village in Orvakal mandal of Kurnool district on Saturday.
According to the information, water supply was suspended at Kalvabugga village four days ago after a starter connected to a motor pump burnt out. Though the villagers were informed about drinking water issue at the local panchayat office, no action was taken so far.

On Saturday, the villagers decided to replace the starter and get the motor to function and were working on the same when a group of local politicians, allegedly belonging to the ruling YSR congress party, reached the village and entered into a heated altercation with the villagers. The leaders questioned the villagers on how they could get the repair done without obtaining permission from the panchayat department officials.
Following arguments, the two groups clashed with one another with sticks, sickles and stones.
After learning about the clashes, the local police rushed to the spot and dispersed both the groups. Four persons who sustained injuries in the clashes were rushed to the local government hospital for treatment.
