SECUNDERABAD: Students of
Osmania University (OU) took out a
protest rally within the campus on Friday against
Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M) student suicide.
A first year student,
Fathima Latheef, of IIT-M was found dead in her hostel room on November 9. The student suicide triggered unrest across the country with many students taking out protest rallies seeking ‘justice for Fathima’.
In OU, members of the Dalit Minority Students Association (DMSA) took out a protest rally from Arts College to Ambedkar statue at Law College seeking thorough investigation and action against the culprits.
“From Rohith Vemula to Fathima Latheef, student suicides have been rampant since 2014. Professors discriminate against students in the name of caste and religion,” said Naresh Dudapaka, president of DMSA.
Students raised slogans as they demanded that authorities initiate necessary action on professors. They also demanded for new Act to protect university students being discriminated on the basis of caste and religion.
