HYDERABAD: After four days of battling for life, following the ill-fated train accident at Kacheguda railway station, the driver of the MMTS train L Chandra Shekar succumbed to his injuries on Saturday night, following a massive cardiac arrest.
The loco pilot had sustained major injuries to the kidneys and lower limbs in the accident and had remained stuck in the mangled coach for eight hours.

Several teams of national disaster response force (NDRF), railway protection force (RPF), government railway police (GRP) carried out the rescue operation and managed to bring him out of the mangled coach. Separate medical teams attempted to supply oxygen and keep him hydrated throughout the eight-hour long rescue operation. While the loco pilot was being shifted from the accident site to the hospital, he had suffered a cardiac arrest and was resuscitated in the ambulance. On reaching the hospital, his condition was assessed to be critical and hospital authorities had said that he would be kept under observation for 24 hours.
The loco pilot had severe damage to the kidneys and was put on continuous dialysis apart from being on ventilator support all through. On Thursday, doctors at the Care Hospital Nampally carried out an amputation surgery on the right leg "as a life saving measure". However, his condition showed no improvement and on Saturday night, he suffered another cardiac arrest after going into sepsis shock, said hospital authorities.
