The Manchester United evening headlines on Saturday, November 16th:

Lukaku claims Solskjaer wanted him to say

Former Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku has claimed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was keen for the Belgium forward to remain at Old Trafford this summer.

After just two seasons with the club, Lukaku sealed a £74million transfer to Inter Milan and has caught the eye in Serie A this season, scoring nine goals in his opening 12 league matches in Italian football.

While Lukaku has stated he had Solskjaer's blessing after he outlined his intention to leave earlier this year, he also added that the United boss would have preferred to retain his services.

"Solskjaer has my eternal respect. He understood me when I said in March that it was time for me to leave England,” Lukaku told Het Belang van Limburg.

“I have been in the Premier League as an 18-year-old boy and now I am 26. Solskjaer wanted to keep me, but I was ready for something new.”

Gary Neville comments on Glazers

United legend Gary Neville has explained why he has refused to join the fans in their criticisms of the Glazers, explaining how whatever he said would not make a difference in their decision on whether to sell.

“I know the Glazer family, met them probably five times in my life, but whatever Gary Neville says they are not going to do anything,” Neville told The Times.

“Trust me, they’re going to sell when they want to sell. They’re hardened business people who lived through a campaign of green and gold for two years where the fans were essentially battering them, effigies everywhere and they didn’t budge one inch."

EFL Trophy tie with Tranmere Rovers

Manchester United's U21s will take on Tranmere Rovers in the second round of the EFL Trophy, following the draw for the next stage of the competition on Saturday.

Neil Wood's side were due to play the game on home soil but — like their Manchester City counterparts — requested to play the match away from home to aid the development of their young players, which means the match will take place at Prenton Park.

United won all three of their group-stage matches against Rotherham United, Lincoln City and Doncaster Rovers, encountering no issues so far in their first debut campaign in the competition.

Sancho reacts to United fan's transfer plea

England international and Borussia Dortmund sensation Jadon Sancho has reacted to a plea from a United fan to join the club, the Mirror reports , following a training session with the Three Lions.

Taking time to greet fans and sign autographs, one supporter said "please sign for United" after taking a picture with the former Manchester City youngster.

That led to a chuckle from the 19-year-old, who diplomatically refused to respond directly to the comment from the hopeful fan.
