KOLKATA: The Nabadiganta Industrial Township Authority (NDITA) is planning to launch a mobile app to facilitate orders from the streetfood vendors in Sector V. This will get the hawkers on the m-commerce market and enable IT employees in the area to order food from these stalls without having to come out of their offices.
The initiative aims to enable even those streetfood stall owners who do not have a smartphone to get orders ‘online’.

Officials said that hundreds of IT employees in Sector V prefer to get their snacks or lunch from the streetfood stalls as they are easily and quickly available at cheap rates.
Officials said that conventional food-ordering apps would not be able to provide this service because their costs are high as they are tied-up with reputed food chains and restaurants.
“Many innovative app solutions are coming up. The app will have a localized mechanism. It will be able to connect buyers and sellers within a maximum radius of 500 metres. A customer can order on the app and the vendor will receive an SMS with the details of the order, for which cash-on-delivery system will be available,” an official said.
IT employees in Sector V welcomed the initiative. “My colleagues and I often have to come out of our office building and go to the nearby roadside food stalls to have our evening snacks. Having a system to get the same delivered to us will save time and effort,” said Kaustav Basu, an IT executive.
