Eleven arrested after latest protests over Pittsboro Confederate statue

The Chatham County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of three people during the latest protest Saturday over the Confederate statue in Pittsboro.

PITTSBORO, N.C. — The Chatham County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of three people during the latest protest Saturday over the Confederate statue in Pittsboro.

Allan Wayne Hall, 52, Robert Butler, 63, and Calvin James Megginson, 29, all of Pittsboro, were each arrested during the protest. This is at least the second time Megginson has been arrested. He was also arrested on Oct. 26 on similar charges during a protest. He had a court date on Nov. 13 for those charges.

Hall was charged with inciting a riot and simple affray following an altercation during the protest. He was released on a written promise to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on Dec. 11.

Butler was charged with inciting a riot. He was released on a written promise to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on Dec. 18.

Chatham officials moving ahead with plan to remove courthouse Confederate monument

Megginson was charged with simple assault. He was released on a written promise to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on Dec. 11. He was then arrested again and charged with assault on a female and resisting a public officer. He received a $1,000 bond on those charges and is due in court on Dec. 18.

Others arrested and charged included:

Lindsay Ayling, 32, of Chapel Hill was arrested and charged with simple assault. She was released on a written promise to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on Dec. 18th.
Russell Alphin, 64, of La Grange, was arrested and charged with simple affray. He was released on a written promise to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on Dec. 18th.
Jonathan Canfield, 22, of Raleigh was arrested and charged with simple assault. He was released on a written promise to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on Dec. 18th.
Thalia Considnie, 30, of Durham was arrested and charged with simple affray. She was released on a written promise to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on Dec. 18th.
Christina Gibson, 45, of Keeling, VA, was arrested and charged with simple assault. She was released on a written promise to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on Dec. 18th.
Geraldine Hall, 50, of Denton was arrested and charged with simple affray. She was released on a written promise to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on Dec. 18th.
Maya Little, 27, of Carrboro was arrested and charged with simple affray, inciting a riot, and felony malicious conduct by a prisoner. She was assigned a $10,000 secured bond and is due to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on Dec. 2.
Esther Mack, 27, of Chapel Hill was arrested and charged with simple affray. She was released on a written promise to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on Dec. 18th.

“We respect every resident’s right to peacefully assemble in nonviolent protest or support of their beliefs. However, unlawful or violent behavior will not be tolerated,” Chatham County Sheriff’s Office Chief Charles Gardner said.

“The safety of the public remains our number one concern,” Capt. Chris Cooper said. “We encourage all members of the public to treat each other with respect and refrain from aggressive conduct toward one another.”
