Indianapolis crime: Man shot in the face while driving on I-465

Indiana State Police detectives are investigating after a man was shot in the face Saturday night while driving on I-465.

Troopers and paramedics were called to the southbound lanes of I-465 near I-74 on Indianapolis' east side around 7:40 p.m.

Upon arrival, police found a male victim with a gunshot wound to the face. The victim was transported to an area hospital in stable condition and is expected to recover, police said.

Two passengers in the car at the time of the shooting were not injured.

Police believe the shooter was the occupant of a red or maroon four-door passenger car, possibly a Chevrolet Malibu, Chrysler 300 or similar vehicle.

The suspect pulled alongside the victim's white 2005 Chrysler and fired a gun at least once, police said. The suspect vehicle then fled the scene.

The motive remains under investigation, but police do not believe the incident was a random shooting.
