AGRA: For honour, a 22-year-old woman was brutally murdered by her father in the Firozabad district of UP in the early hours of Sunday.
The victim was in relationship with a youth in her neighbourhood and her father was against the relationship.
The incident took place at about 1:15am in Salempur Khutiana village under Jasrana police jurisdiction. The victim was identified as Pooja Singh, a postgraduate who was in an alleged relationship with Gajendra.
She was the youngest among five siblings and only daughter of her parents.
According to police, it was accused Harivansh Kumar who informed police (dial 100) about the murder in wee hours, and the police force, led by SP rural, Rajesh Kumar, CO, Jasrana, OP Singh and SHO, Jasrana, Girish Chandra Gautam reached the spot.
Accused Harivansh was booked on his son’s Yogesh's complaint for murder under IPC section 302 (murder) and was sent to jail after brief interrogation. Pooja’s body was sent for autopsy and her report was yet to be received to police.
Om Prakash Singh, circle officer of Jasrana said, “It’s an honour killing and the accused has confessed. He was annoyed with his daughter for having relationship with the neighbour’s youth.”

Speaking to TOI, Girish Chandra Gautam, station house officer of Jasrana, said, “During the interrogation, the accused claimed that he first electrocuted the victim and later slit her throat with a machete. The weapon used in the crime has been receovered.”
According to police sources, at the time of incident only the victim and her father were inside the house. Her mother and three brothers are currently in Gurugram, while the fourth brother lives across in another house.
“The father probably saw his daughter talking to her boyfriend Gajendra in late night, who came to meet her outside her house. When the victim returned to her room, the accused caught her and electrocuted her before slitting her throat,” said a source. Both the girl and boy hailed from same caste.
This was 23rd victim of suspected honour killing in the last 18 months in western UP.
