PATNA: A police constable and a mukhiya’s husband with eight others were arrested from Nawada and Munger districts for violating the prohibition law.
Reports reaching the police headquarters said that a constable Ram Pravesh Singh was arrested after he created a scene allegedly in inebriated condition on the premises of the Pakribarawan police station in Nawada district. Singh allegedly misbehaved with some of his colleagues when the latter prevented him from boozing.

MS Imam said on Sunday that constable Singh, posted as munshi, had also quarrelled with a local resident Ratnakar Pandit, who was also drunk, near the entrance gate of the police station late on Saturday night. Medical tests confirmed that the duo had consumed liquor.
The SHO said that both the arrested persons were produced before Nawada chief judicial magistrate which remanded them to 14-day judicial custody. Earlier, an FIR was lodged against them under relevant sections of the Prohibition and Excise Act 2016.
The arrested constable earlier told police officials that he had bought bottles of alcohol from neighbouring Jharkhand a few days ago. Police, however, didn’t recover any bottles of liquor during search of his room.
Meanwhile in Munger, a police team conducted a raid on the office premises of a woman mukhiya Sarita Devi at Pariaya under Bariarpur police station and seized 56 litres of liquor.
Mukhiya’s husband Mukesh Kumar alias Dullo Mandal and eight others were arrested during the raid. Munger SP Gaurav Mangla said on Sunday that the mukhiya’s husband is involved in illicit liquor trade. “He used to supply liquor from the mukhiya’s office where a huge consignment was stored for the purpose,” the SP said adding that all those arrested from the village had consumed alcohol during arrest.
Police said that three out of the eight arrested persons—Dullo Mandal, Pawan Choudhary and Dheeraj Yadav—had criminal antecedents. “Several cases of murder, attempt to murder and Arms Act, were pending against the trio,” the SP said. Four of the arrested persons belonged to the mukhiya’s family.
