After films like Kapoor & Sons, Student Of The Year, Sidharth Malhotra came to the big screen as the quintessential Bollywood hero in Marjaavaan. He shed his chocolate boy image to turn into a bone-smashing good-hearted goon in Marjaavaan.

The film had a good start at the box office as it minted Rs 7.03 crore on the first day of its release. Marjaavaan entered its first weekend with good box office numbers. The film made Rs 7.21 crore on Saturday. The film took a giant leap on Sunday as it earned Rs 10.18 crore.

Marjaavaan has been directed by Milap Zaveri, who has also written the film. He earlier helmed John Abraham's Satyameva Jayate. Apart from Sidharth, it sees Tara Sutaria and Riteish Deshmukh in lead roles, Riteish is playing a negative role in the film.

In Marjaavaan, Sidharth is playing the role of a orphan who has been raised by a local mafia. He falls in love with Tara Sutaria, a mute girl who is searching for talented singers in slums. She wants to take these kids to Kashmir to take part in a singing competition so that they can come out of poverty and lead a good life. This is followed by a major twist that will change the life of Sidharth's character in the film forever.

Though Marjaavaan is doing well at the box office, the film has received negative reviews. Our reviewer Narita Mukherjee gave the film 1 out of 5 stars. She wrote, "Marjaavaan draws its action inspiration from films like Dabangg, Wanted or other Rohit Shetty films, but unlike those, it takes itself too seriously. What works in favour of any Salman Khan potboiler is that, sometimes, it seems to be parodying itself. Whereas Milap Zaveri, who also has the writing credit for the film, actually believes he is creating heart-warming romance, gut-wrenching action and path-breaking dialogues (did you miss the constant references to Amitabh Bachchan's Angry Young Man straight from Day 1?). Like Tara Sutaria’s expressions in the film, the previous line too is a myth."
