Dad sees girl with beau in Agra, kills her

In a case of honour killing in Agra, a man allegedly murdered his 22-year-old daughter for having a relationship with the neighbour's son. He first allegedly electrocuted her and then slit her throat with a machete after he saw her talking to the man around midnight on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. The accused, Harivansh Kumar, himself called the police and admitted that he killed his daughter as he did not approve of her relationship with the man.

AGRA: In a case of honour killing in Agra, a man allegedly murdered his 22-year-old daughter for having a relationship with the neighbour's son. He first allegedly electrocuted her and then slit her throat with a machete after he saw her talking to the man around midnight on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. The accused, Harivansh Kumar, himself called the police and admitted that he killed his daughter as he did not approve of her relationship with the man.

The incident took at about 1:15 am in Salempur Khutiana village under Jasrana police jurisdiction of Firozabad district. Victim Pooja Singh was a postgraduate and was the youngest among five siblings and only daughter of her parents.
According to police, Harivansh informed the police (by dialling 100) about the murder. Following the call, a police team lead by SP-rural Rajesh Kumar, Jasrana circle officer Om Prakash Singh and SHO Girish Chandra Gautam reached the spot and arrested him.
Following a complaint by the accused's son, Yogesh, police booked Harivansh under IPC section 302 (murder) and sent him to jail after a brief interrogation. Victim's body was sent for autopsy which is yet to arrive.
Circle officer said, “It is a case of honor killing. The accused has admitted that he killed his daughter as he was annoyed with her for having a relationship with a youth who lives in the neighbourhood.”
Speaking to TOI, SHO Girish Chandra Gautam said, “During interrogation, the accused claimed that he first electrocuted his daughter and later slit her throat with a machete. The weapon used in the crime has been recovered.”

According to police sources, the victim and her father were in the house at the time of the incident. The girl's mother and three of her brothers were in Gurugram in Haryana while the fourth brother lives in another house across the road.
“The boyfriend had come to meet the girl outside her house, and the father probably saw his daughter talking to her beau. When the girl returned to her room, he caught her and electrocuted her before slitting her throat,” said a source.
Both the girl and boy belonged to the same caste.
It maybe noted that Pooja was the 23rd victim of suspected honour killing in the past 18 months in western Uttar Pradesh.
