SECUNDERABAD: Areas in Secunderabad are much colder than Hyderabad, with few areas such as Subhash Nagar, Kapra, Neredmet, Moulali, Bolarum, Musheerabad already experiencing minimum temperatures of 15-19 degree Celsius. The fall in temperature has been attributed to the higher green cover in the Secunderabad cantonment areas.
The minimum temperature in many parts of the eastern corridor plummeted by five degree Celsius in the last one week.
According to Telangana State Development Planning Society, at 16.5 degree Celsius, Subhash Nagar recorded the lowest minimum temperature in Secunderabad on Sunday followed by 17.8 degree Celsius in Kapra, 19.1 degree Celsius in Neredmet, 19.2 degree Celsius in Musheerabad and 19.8 degree Celsius in Moulali respectively. The sudden dip in temperature is being attributed the greenery coupled with the area’s elevated topography.
“The cantonment area in Secunderabad is much greener than rest of the city. Due to this, it is relatively colder in Secunderabad. One can feel distinct difference in the temperature once you cross Trimulgherry,” said Anand Basak, a resident of Alwal.
With the onset of winter round the corner, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has started its activity to identify locations to set up of temporary night shelters in all zones, including Secunderabad. The weather is expected to be dry for the next few days.
Considering that GHMC found highest number of homeless peopleto the tune of 316from Secunderabad zone last year, zonal officers are trying to identify more night shelters in Secunderabad.
“Last year, we found many people taking shelter at the railway station and under flyovers. This year, we will identify locations where mattresses, blankets, driniking water and toilet facility could be arranged,” said a GHMC official.
