Indonesia Govt Confident to Attract Global Manufacturing Industry

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita is optimistic that Indonesia remains the preferred destination for the world’s manufacturing industry as the country is home to a massive market for raw materials.
He also says that Indonesia has the supply of competitive human resources that can help develop the country’s industrial sector.
“A number of global investors have expressed interest in making Indonesia as their production base for domestic and global export needs,” said Agus today.
The Industry Ministry recorded 5,133 projects in domestic manufacturing industry investments (PMDN) from January - September 2019 that reaches a total value of Rp52.8 trillion.
The three largest investments are in the food investments valuing up to Rp26.4 trillion with 1,649 projects; steel industry, machining, electronics and medical instruments valued at Rp7.6 trillion (656 projects); chemical industry and pharmacy Rp6.8 trillion (678 projects).
Meanwhile, the investment coordinating board (BKPM) records that the investment realization in the manufacturing sector from January to September of 2019 reached Rp147.3 trillion.
