Upgrade to municipal district among UWP plans for St. Joseph says Monell Williams-Jno Baptiste

Monell Williams- Jno Baptiste addressing UWP supporters at St. Joseph

An upgrade of the St. Joseph Health Centre to a full-service medical hospital, an administrative complex to house government’s postal services, a sub-treasury, ATM services and the establishment of three new Dominican municipal districts, are some of the plans United Workers Party (UWP) candidate for the St Joseph Constituency, Monell Williams-Jno Baptiste,  says will benefit her constituency as well as the rest of Dominica.

Williams- Jno Baptiste, who was addressing party supporters at a UWP Mega Rally held in St Joseph on Sunday, said she is excited about her vision for the St Joseph constituency.

“We will upgrade the St. Joseph Health Centre to a full-service medical hospital and identify a suitable area for the construction of a Fire and Ambulance station,” she said.

She continued, “The United Workers Party (UWP) will announce the establishment of three new Dominican municipal districts: Grand Bay, Marigot and St. Joseph. The towns will be instituted within the first 18 months of a new UWP government.”

According to Williams-Jno Baptiste, the French Department and English Creole liaison of the government of Dominica will establish offices in the towns of Saint-Pierre (Martinique), Basse Terre (Guadeloupe) and the city of St. Johns (Antigua) as a means of enhancing joint-venture relationships between the new towns.

“Among other initiatives, trade, tourism and air and sea transportation are expected to receive a boost from this new municipal initiative,” she stated.

The construction of a modern police station in St Joseph also forms part of the UWP’s plans.

“We will build a modern police station and more employment opportunities will be created for aspiring police officers,” Williams Jno Baptiste stated. “The positive spillover of the town of St. Joseph on the community: enhanced police presence through the western district police command.”

Constituents will also see an upgrade of the basketball court into the new St. Joseph Sports Complex, “An indoor/ multi-purpose facility with seating bleachers and lighting for evening or day/night events.”

“We will employ the best engineers to ensure that you retain all access to this facility as a community during the day,” Williams-Jno Baptiste assured her constituents.

Furthermore, the UWP also plans, in consultation with the Catholic Church, to acquire permission for the grassing of the St. Joseph playing field to accommodate international cricket and football events with an emphasis on training and net sessions for international cricket.

She said there will be a seaport with customs and immigration facilities and a commercial area for doing business.

“These infrastructural amenities will help to greatly enhance the aesthetic of the community,” she noted. “This seaport, which will be retrofitted to accommodate sea-plane landing, will also serve as a link between the west, south and north of the island as well as a point of international entry and will be situated to your immediate left,” she told the hundreds of supporters gathered on the St. Joseph playing field.

Williams- Jno Baptiste informed her audience that the government-owned land for the development of the market place will finally be used for its intended purpose as the party will create a Market Plaza named after the community’s most renowned farmer CJ Ferreira.

“We will further identify a suitable area for a modern Park. St Joseph will be truly the City it was designed to be,” she revealed.

She said further that the St. Joseph feast, though a religious feast, under a new UWP government will be changed from just a jam ,as she put it, to a true community experience and become a model for other community feasts.

“The idea is to add other aspects to these three days of feast celebration like a market day, a food fair, a local talent show/display and a youth activity,” Williams Jno Baptiste explained. “Our feast will be transformed into a true community event that will help in bridging the generation gap, strengthening our community spirit and togetherness while we reap the economic benefits that this will provide even for the young entrepreneurs who will appreciate the all-day traffic through the community.”

Meanwhile, she revealed that the town of St. Joseph will be twined with the Guadeloupe town of Basse Terre and a life-like monument of Jeff Joseph will be erected at the Jeff Joe square in the centre of the village.

Was Monelle day-dreaming, having a wet dream, a normal dream during a peaceful night’s rest or a nightmare when when she fabricated these ideas?

It is good to be ambitious but one also has to be realistic. The St. Joseph playing field cannot even be upgraded for regional matches due to space limitations fearless for international matches.

Is it that Monelle is so naive that she seemly went along with a bunch of ideas přesented to her by someone in the party?

    Let’s be real……

You are a formidable woman with great focus, determination, dedication and I am sure that you will be a great and committed Member of Parliament and Representative for the people of your constituency. Please educate yourself daily on the matters of state and on of the needs of your people within your constituency. They expect sound leadership, frequent visits meetings, update as to what is happening. Do not depend on the government everyday for cash for projects and upkeep of your constituency, but to work closely, design annual plan with the village councils to plot and decide on the path and journey they need for their respective villages. Please visit your councils one a month and have meetings and dialogue with them. Every quarter (3months) have joint meetings first with the village councils individually and then all together to discuss and prepare a plan for the development of the constituency and its people, in areas of recreation, education, income generating etc. Good Luck

Papa Met, well all these promises comes with paying RENT! How can you deviously lie to we the people of St. Joe, when you cannot make the time to attend PTA meetings for your children. Who are you WOMAN, have you ever been to a school function! You are at every funeral ⚰️ shaking hands, but failing to help clean the village.
We the people of the St.Joseph Constituency have always keep an open mind, but blowing hot air isn’t going to resonate with us. It is reduclously alarmingly to see your performance on stage when you are not involved in nothing in the village. Red eye from Layou pick you up from morning to go on the political trail so you are not around. You barely have the time to see your children. How can we trust you with our future when you are unemployed living on a mega government subsidizes. Women every body has to start somewhere start by owning your own donkey or transportation. I don’t fell like downloading, but don’t ever make the mistake to bash Dr. 👑

Long Spoon, you have learnt well from Skerrit’s scores of false promises. However, not everyone is dishonest. Give the lady the opportunity to accomplish these commitments, not promises, in two consecutive terms. Unlike the DLP, the UWP makes commitments not promises.

You are correct as all these plans cannot be accomplished in one five year term. She is thinking long term, at least two straight terms or probably more.

Herein lies Dominica’s problem. The lack of continuity from one regime to the other. Some projects cannot be completed by one regime and must be completed by their successor. The government should focus on what is necessary for the development of the country rather than trying to gain points on their opponents. Dominica should have a 5, 10, 20 and 50 years plan. No one regime can achieve all that in one term.

Poor poor pity, your own strong supporters have to caution you publicly on your promises. Only you and % are living in Dream Land. I just remember the joke when you said, the St. Joe river pass through your booth Sham and took your medication, washing machine and TV. Women that high high horses 🐎 you are riding take it back to Layou Park. Remember they promise you a house and a car, hope you are still waiting.

Very Interesting ideas, I am a fan but is that sustainable without an organic source of income? Why not try to develop some agro-based industry? A canning factory to prolong the shelf life of our fruits and vegetables? This would provide great support for your municipal plans and would be an excuse for Guadeloupe, Antigua, and Martinique to trade with the new municipalities.

There is a sizeable Dominican contingent in all three countries and I need not tell you, as proud patriots, we would buy anything with the label made in Dominica on the tin. So while I like your ideas, I think with a bit more structure they will gain traction.

I strongly recommend getting rid of both Mr. Linton and Mr. Francis from the hegemony of the party. They seem to be actively trying to lose this election. I believe that Clement Marcellin has potential but it is too early he needs training; I would recommend either yourself or Mr. Ronald Charles as a caretaker leader till Mr. Marcellin has been…

The plans are very ambitious but with two consecutive terms she can accomplish many of them. Be focused, don’t get distracted, as the people will hold your feet to the fire. New team, new ideas, new vision will enhance not only the dull, rundown physical image of Dominica but give every Dominican a new lease on life. Way to go, Monell.

It is very achievable. Not overnight, but it wont take 15 years. I agree with all of what she said. It is needed.
