Marjaavaan sustains through its opening weekend while the other three releases -- Motichoor Chakanachoor, Jhalki and Bagpat Ka Dulhha -- fail at the box office.

Ayushmann Khurrana's Bala consolidates itself over the weekend and becomes a hit.

Vinod Mirani gives us his weekly verdict.

Marjaavaan

Cast: Sidharth Malhotra, Riteish Deshmukh, Tara Sutaria, Rakul Preet Singh.
Director: Milap Zaveri.
What works: Full-on masala movie.
What doesn't: Outdated film-making, stale imagination, hysterically hamming actors.
Number of weeks: New.
Box Office verdict: Decent opening.

Motichoor Chaknachoor

Cast: Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Athiya Shetty.
Director: Debamitra Biswal.
What works: Strong performances.

Box Office verdict: Hit.
