CBSE Board Exam 2020: HC gives CBSE 4 weeks' time to decide on exam fee hike
CUTTAK: The Orissa high court on Monday directed the chairman of the Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE) in New Delhi to take a decision within four weeks on Odisha Abhibhabak Mahasangh (OAM)'s representation seeking a withdrawal of the hike in exam fee of students to appear in the Class X and XII board exam.
The outcome of the representation is significant as 20,299 schools in the country are affiliated to the board.
The CBSE brought about the changes to the exam fee structure for students both in the general and the scheduled caste and scheduled tribe category in August. The exam fee for general category students was increased from Rs 750 to Rs 1,500; that for SC and ST students was raised from Rs 50 to Rs 1,200. The migration certificate fee was fixed at Rs 350.
On October 29, chairman of OAM, Basudev Bhatta, filed a PIL after its representations to the Union minister for human resources development (on August 11) and chairman of the CBSE (on August 12) did not yield any result despite requests by the governor and the chief minister 'to CBSE to reconsider their decision in the interests of the people'.
