Campaign to vaccinate livestock against foot-and-mouth disease launched

The Livestock Affairs Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment has launched a national campaign to vaccinate livestock against foot-and-mouth disease in Al Shamal Animal Farms Complex in Al Ruwais. The launch ceremony was attended by Director of Livestock Affairs Department Eng. Abdulaziz Al Ziyara; Head of Animal Health Department Saleh Jarallah Al Marri and a number of veterinarians and doctors who will supervise the vaccination of livestock in various animal farms complexes in the country.
Saleh Jarallah Al Marri said that the national vaccination campaign against foot-and-mouth disease targets three animal species sheep, goats and cows. He said that all vaccinations and medicines for epidemic and infectious diseases that threaten livestock are available. He added that the campaign will continue for six months, with the launch of other campaigns after the end of the current campaign to vaccinate livestock, increase immunity for livestock, in addition to launching a series of campaigns to vaccinate against various diseases that negatively affect livestock.
Dr. Hamad Al Marri, a Veterinarian and one of the medical team supervising the campaign, said that foot-and-mouth disease which is called FAO is a difficult epidemic that affects cattle from goats, sheep and cows and negatively affects them clearly. He added that with the animal infected with this disease appear some symptoms on cattle once infected through transmission or because of various contaminants such as a clear reduction in milk production and others, and loss of appetite and may be accompanied by high temperature.
