PUNE: Farmers from Beed on Tuesday suspended their agitation after “the government agreed to rectify the records for settlement of claims in a time-bound manner”.
For the last one week, the farmers had been on a sit-in agitation outside the Oriental Insurance’s office in Pune. “The government has agreed to our demands and the agriculture commissioner has assured action,” Ajit Abhyankar, a city-based labour leader, said.
He said there were minor issues holding back the farmers’ claims.
“I think they will do bulk of payments by November 28, pending which we will decide our future course of action,” he added.
Oriental Insurance’s official said the company would examine minor mistakes at their end. “If there are any claims, we can pay from here, we will clear them. For major errors in policies and documents, only the head office or the central government can take a call,” PS Murthy, deputy general manager, Oriental Insurance, said.
When contacted, a common services centre official said the errors crept in due to the enrolment targets. “Also, translation caused the problems,” he said.
