LAHORE: At least 14 prisoners are suffering from life-threatening diseases in different district jails of Punjab, The News has learnt.
This data of 41 jails from Punjab has been provided by the Inspector General of Punjab Prisons to Chief Information Commissioner Punjab on the request of Abdullah Malik, head of Civil Society Network. Abdullah Malik has requested Additional Chief Secretary, Punjab Home Department, to send these prisoners abroad on medical grounds as former prime minster was allowed to go abroad for treatment.
He also requested the ACS Home to constitute a medical board to protect lives of the prisoners. According to a record available with The News, nine convicts, two condemned, two under-trial prisoners and one detainee in different jails of the province are suffering from different life-threatening diseases. Many prisoners from different jails have been admitted to hospitals because of their critical health condition.
In district jail Lahore, five prisoners Naveed Anjum s/o Abdul Waheed, Asghar s/o Sardar, Mukhtar s/o Sharif, Ramzan s/o Saleem, Muhammad Ahmed s/o Amin had been admitted to hospital because of serious health condition. From district jail Sialkot three prisoners Faqeer s/o Bashir, Younis s/o Sikandar, Tariq Mahmood s/o Abdul Ghafoor have been shifted to hospital because of deteriorating health. From district jail Okra prisoner Liaqat s/o Siddique is suffering from tuberculosis and jail administration has requested the authorities concerned to shift him to Gulab Devi hospital.
From district jail Jhang a prisoner suffering from chronic liver disease (CLD) has been admitted to prison ward DHQ hospital Jhang.
