Every holiday has its own rendition of horror movies, and Christmas is no exception. Normally, Christmas is associated with family-friendly films, but this holiday has spawned a baffling number of horror films. With the Christmas season just around the corner, now’s the perfect time to give some of these films a watch. Here are some Christmas-themed horror movies that’ll put you in the holiday spirit with a fright.“Krampus”In German folklore, naughty kids have far more to worry about than getting coal in their stockings. Instead, a human-like figure with goat horns, known as Krampus, might come after them. In the film, a dysfunctional family encounters Krampus after one kid loses the holiday spirit. So, it might be a cathartic way of escaping any arguments your family might get into over the holidays.“Black Christmas”The only thing more terrifying about being stuck on campus during the holidays is being stuck on campus during the holidays and having all your friends get murdered one by one. This old slasher movie uses just that premise to drive its scares. It’s getting a remake, which is coming out on Dec. 13, so this is as good a time as any to give the original a watch. The film also helped inspire John Carpenter’s “Halloween,” so if you enjoy that movie, chances are you’ll appreciate this one.“Anna and the Apocalypse”“Anna and the Apocalypse” is a British horror comedy musical about a zombie apocalypse that starts around Christmas time. This is the movie for you if you don’t want something too scary but still want a little horror in your Christmas.“Silent Night, Deadly Night”This movie could probably be replaced with one of the many “Santa goes on a murderous rampage” movies out there. This one, however, had controversy surrounding its opening scene, which has allowed it to become slightly infamous. Even though it technically doesn’t have a murderous Santa — the killer is just dressed up as Santa Claus — it still has a lot of murder. This film has also spawned many sequels, making it a good choice if you want a slasher movie Christmas marathon.“Gremlins”If you’d rather your scares be a little more kid-friendly, then why not watch “Gremlins”? It may be more of a classic than an obscure horror film, but it fits the role well as a film that you could watch with your entire family. Besides, you probably haven’t seen it yet, so why not enjoy some scares that are filled with blood and gore?So, when you’re ready to get into the holiday spirit, why not give one of these films a try?
