High Level Development Forum in Bishkek

Bishkek, Nov.20, 2019. /Kabar/. Yesterday, Nov.19 President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov attended the work of the High Level Development Forum “Accelerating Reforms for Sustainable Development” in Bishkek.

Heads and representatives of such organizations and structures as the World Bank, UN Agencies, Asian Development Bank, International Monetary Fund, European Union, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Eurasian Development Bank, Islamic Development Bank, OSCE, Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development, OPEC Fund for International Development, German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), JICA, KOICA, USAID, Soros Foundation, Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), Saudi Fund for Development, Aga Khan Development Network, International Telecommunication Union (ITU), etc. were invited to the Forum.

Addressing to the donor community, Jeenbekov emphasized Kyrgyzstan has its own resources, but also counts on the support of development partners. He spoke in detail about the main directions of state policy aimed at the development of the country.

The President noted with gratitude that Kyrgyzstan, together with donors, has implemented a large number of projects, and expressed confidence in further successful cooperation.

“It is with the aim of accelerating the reforms ensuring development that we have gathered today to discuss the directions of the country's development, which will be priorities in the near future, to redirect investments to the necessary direction to ensure the efficiency of financial investments,” Jeenbekov said.

World Bank Country Manager for the Kyrgyz Republic Bolormaa Amgaabazar, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Central Asia Natalia Gherman, EU Special Representative for Central Asia Peter Burian, World Bank Strategy and Operations Director for the Europe and Central Asia Region Mariam Sherman, USAID’s Deputy Assistant Administrator for South Central Asia Javier Piedra expressed their support for the initiatives, launched by the Kyrgyz leader, noted the positive dynamics of reforms in the country and assured of their readiness to provide further assistance.

The Forum participants got acquainted with the presentations of the representatives of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, the work of the "Regional Development and Investment Climate" panel session.
