HYDERABAD: Even before the dust on Abdullapurmet tahsildar Vijaya Reddy settled down, a farmer created a scare in Chigurumamidi tahsildar’s office in Karimnagar on Tuesday by sprinkling petrol on computers.
The farmer, Kanakayya, who was rushing into the tahsildar’s chambers, was stopped by other staff members and handed over to the police.
Kanakayya of Lambadipalli village came with a petrol bottle and sprinkled the fuel on the computers.
Some of the fuel fell on senior assistant Ramachandram. However, staffers caught hold of Kanakayya. When officials brought the matter to the notice of district collector Sarfaraz Ahmed, he said appropriate action would be taken against the farmer.
Kanakayya reportedly has a grouse against the revenue officials as the land he ‘owned’ wa not getting reflected in the online records. He said that though the land in the records should be 4.18 acres, only 18 guntas was reflected. The land that belonged to his family was to be disbursed between him and his brother and with no clarity on the ownership, the land issue has become a hassle for him. The farmer said he has been making rounds to the office for the last seven years but the issue has not been resolved yet.
In similar incidents in Khammam and Narayankhed last week, revenue officials were at the receiving end of angry farmers. A tribal farmer Chandavath of Balajinagar thanda abused Tirumalayapalem tahsildar Anuradha Bai in her office on November 14 and allegedly threatened to kill her if his land issue was not resolved. “Chandavath came to the office with a can of petrol and insisted that his land records be rectified. The revenue staff said Chandavath demanded that 12 guntas of land that he had sold to someone should be reflected in the land records under his name. When he had been informed that it would not be done, the farmer became restive,” the officials said.
In another incident on November 13, farmer G Sailu went to the Kalher tahsildar’s office in Narayankhed with a bottle of petrol to threaten the staff. The staff who noticed the farmer with the petrol bottle immediately alerted the police, who took him away from the scene.
