Venkatesh, Daggubati Suresh and Nani under I-T lens for tax evasion

Income-tax officials on Wednesday conducted searches on Telugu film actors Venkatesh and Nani, producer Daggubati Suresh and three production houses and unearthed Rs 50 lakh from various locations.

HYDERABAD: Income-tax officials on Wednesday conducted searches on Telugu film actors Venkatesh and Nani, producer Daggubati Suresh and three production houses and unearthed Rs 50 lakh from various locations.
Highly-placed sources said they came under I-T radar over suspected tax evasion. Places where searches were conducted include Hyderabad-based Suresh Productions Private Ltd, Haarika & Hassine Creations and Sithara Entertainments which produce, distribute and exhibit Telugu films.
Sleuths of Hyderabad investigation units swooped on 25 locations in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Chennai and Mumbai early in the day.
Apart from Ramanaidu Studios, houses of Venkatesh at Dollar Hills and that of Suresh and Nani were also searched.
Sources said Nani (originally Ghanta Naveen Babu) came under I-T lens after he co-produced some films with the firms that were already under scanner.
Suresh Productions, which was incorporated in December 1983, is one of the top film production houses in the country. Suresh, elder brother of Venkatesh, owns Suresh Productions and is associated with Suresh Productions Entertainment LLP, Suresh Productions Entertainment Ltd and Daggubati Farms and Estates Private Ltd.
Haarika and Hassine Creations is producing the film ‘Ala Vaikuntapuramlo’ starring Allu Arjun, which is set for release during Sankranti in 2020. Film producer Suryadevara Radhakrishna owns Haarika and Hassine Creations and Sithara Entertainments.
Sithara Entertainments has produced films such as ‘Premam’, ‘Babu Bangaram’, ‘Shailaja Reddy Alludu’, ‘Jersey’, ‘Ranarangam’, ‘Bheeshma’ and ‘Rang De’.
