NEW DELHI: Truck owners staged a protest at Alipur on Wednesday against a group of policemen for allegedly running an extortion racket in the area.
The owners claimed that cops or people posing as cops had been stopping truckers leaving the city for checks and extorting huge sums of money every day. The truck owners submitted a memorandum to the area deputy commissioner of police, asking him to conduct an enquiry.

Gaurav Sharma, DCP (outer north) said that they are investigating the allegations, but no case had been registered so far.
Speaking to TOI, Mohan Singh, chairman of All India Truck Operator Welfare Association said, "At all Delhi borders, a number of policemen stop truck drivers. Even when all documents are provided and there are no violations, the cops threaten to fine the drivers unless paid off."
Singh said he and others went to Kondli border on Tuesday night and witnessed the extortion. "We have given a complaint to SHO Alipur. Police say they must be people posing as cops," said Singh.
The association has also decided to go on an all India strike on Monday if no action is taken.
