NEW DELHI: A gunrunner supplying arms to criminals in Najafgarh and Dwarka under the garb of running a popular food stall has been arrested along with his partner. Police said they procured weapons from Meerut in UP and Khargone in Madhya Pradesh.
“The guns would be stored in the utensils inside the kitchen. Anyone requiring arms would come with a reference and ask for a pre-decided food item.
He was charged Rs 8,000-10,000 per plate. The weapon was sometimes given as a takeaway,” an official said.
The arrested men have been identified as Ajay (23) and Arvind (23), who are residents of Sector 3 Dwarka. Three pistols of different caliber and cartridges have been seized.
DCP (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse said in the wake of some firing incidents that took place in the area, he had formed a special team led by ACP Joginder Joon to focus on gunrunners. A few days ago, the team was tipped off about Ajay coming to Sector 3 to deliver weapons. Accordingly, a team led by inspector Ram Kishan was rushed to the spot and a trap laid.
The suspect was identified by the informer and arrested. Two pistols were seized from his bag. Ajay led the cops to Arvind. The accused revealed that Ajay’s food stall was frequented by several criminals as it ran till late at night. It was there that they made friends with them and started supplying weapons.
The arms and ammunitions were procured by Kallu, who brought them from MP. After Ajay and Arvind placed their demand, Kallu travelled to Madhya Pradesh, purchased the weapons, and handed them at Ajay’s food stall, police said.
