24-year-old dies of dengue in Hooghly

A day after a five-year-old Serampore girl died of dengue, the disease claimed another life in Hooghly's Telenipara - within Bhadreswar Municipality area - on Wednesday.

TELENIPARA (HOOGHLY): A day after a five-year-old Serampore girl died of dengue, the disease claimed another life in Hooghly's Telenipara - within Bhadreswar Municipality area - on Wednesday. Sonu Chowdhury (24), a resident of Malapura Bylane in Bhadreswar's Telenipara locality, collapsed in the ambulance carrying him from Chandannagore Sub-divisional hospital to Medical College and Hospital, Calcutta.
He was brought back to the Chandernagore hospital where doctors declared him dead. His death certificate mentions dengue shock syndrome as cause of death.
Sonu's father Satya Narayan Chowdhury (a jute mill worker) said: "My son had fever for some days. We admitted him to Chandannagore Sub-divisional Hospital on Tuesday. By that evening, we were informed he had tested positive for the NS 1 virus. His condition deteriorated on Wednesday and the hospital referred him to a Kolkata hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, my son collapsed soon after we left Chandernagore. We returned to the Chandannagore hospital where doctors declared him dead." Hospital authorities said six more patients were down with dengue.
