First Nations pact signed for Premier/Centerra gold project
Greenstone Gold Mines (GGM), a 50:50 joint venture between Premier Gold Mines and Centerra Gold, has the support of local communities for its Hardrock gold project, in Ontario.
Premier announced on Thursday that GGM had signed a long-term relationship agreement with Aroland First Nation, Animbiigoo Zaagi'igan Anishinaabek, and Ginoogaming First Nation, committing the partnership to protecting the environment, supporting local social and cultural practices and providing employment and business opportunities.
“With all local communities in support of this project, Hardrock moves one step closer to becoming a reality,” said Premier executive chairperson John Begeman.
The Hardrock project will be an openpit gold mine situated in a historical mine site for which the JV acquired the mining claim in December 2008. The property is a brownfield site that was actively mined between the 1930s and 1970s, and in later years was known as the MacLeod-Mosher complex.
The project has environmental approval from the Ontario and federal governments.
