ALLAHABAD: An FIR was lodged against unidentified persons on charges of stubble burning at Asothar police station of Fatehpur late on Wednesday night.
DIG ( Prayagraj range) K P Singh told TOI, “Lekhpal, Asothar sadar tehsil of Fatehpur, Vijay Laxmi, had on November 19 informed Asothar police that stubble burning was spotted on a field in Premmau Katra village. Acting upon the complaint, police lodged an FIR under Sections 278 and 285 of IPC and 26 National Green Tribunal Act.”
He further added that police have been making efforts to identify the persons who had allegedly burnt stubble and legal action would be initiated against them.

He, however, said that this was the first case in the region where an FIR had been lodged against burning stubble.
“District-level committees headed by ADM rank officials have been constituted in all four districts of the range and officials of other departments like agriculture, revenue and police are the members,” informed Singh.
He also informed that an awareness campaign had been launched in the four districts by the joint teams comprising members of various departments. The joint teams will apprise farmers and other citizens about the ill-effects of stubble burning and warn them of action if they were found involved in the same.
Reports said district authorities have asked revenue inspectors, lekhpals, agriculture officials and station house officers to carry out frequent rounds to keep a check on fields and educate farmers and others about stubble burning once the crops are harvested.
