2019 Blue Dragon Awards Honor Veteran Actors And Newcomers

The 2019 Blue Dragon Awards were presented on Nov. 21 in Paradise City Hotel and Resort in Incheon, South Korea, with several awards going to the international hit film Parasite

The annual event was hosted for the second time by actress Kim Hye-soo and actor Yoo Yeon-sook.

Parasite won five awards. Jo Yeo-jung was awarded Best Actress for her role as the clueless mother of the wealthy Park family, while Lee Jeong-eun, who plays Gong Hyo-jin’s mother in the TV drama When Camellia Blooms, won Best Supporting Actress for her role as the Park family’s secretive housekeeper. Bong Joon-ho won for Best Director, Lee Ha-jun won for Best Art Direction and Parasite won the Best Film award, beating out the films Swing Kids, Extreme Job, House of Hummingbird, and Exit.

The Best New Director award went to Lee Sang-geun for the film Exit, a disaster action comedy, starring Jo Jung-suk and Im Yoon-ah. 

Jung Woo-sung won Best Actor for his role in the film Innocent Witness and Jo Woo-jin won Best Supporting Actor for his role in the film Default

Kim Hye-joon won Best New Actress for her work in Another Child, which was the directorial debut of veteran actor Kim Yoon-seok, while Park Hae-soo won Best New Actor for his role in By Quantum Physics, a Nighttime Venture. 

Park Hyung-sik and Lee Kwang-woo won Most Popular Actor awards, while the most popular female stars were Im Yoon-ah and Lee Han-na aka Honey Lee, who played an enthusiastic detective in another best film contender, Extreme Job.

Best cinematography and lighting award went to the musical drama film Swing Kids, which stars EXO’s D.O. 

The best screenplay award went to Kim Bo-ra for her coming-of-age film House of Hummingbird and the Best Music was awarded to Kim Tae-seong for Svaha;The Sixth Finger.

The technical award went to Yoon Jin-yool and Kwon Ji-hoon for the stunts performed in Exit.  The Blue Dragon Film Awards considers popular movies of high artistic value released during the previous year, and along with the Grand Bell Awards, are the most popular awards in South Korea. 

The annual awards ceremony was created in 1963 by the Korean newspaper Chosun Ilbo.
