‘Emma’ movie trailer: First look at new take on Jane Austen classic

Jane Austen’s “Emma” is generating buzz more than 200 years after its release — thanks to a new trailer for the latest film adaptation of the classic matchmaker tale.

Anya Taylor-Joy (“The Witch”), 23, stars as the “restless queen bee” title character, Emma Woodhouse, who flutters between “misguided matches and romantic missteps to find the love” — spoiler alert! — “that has been there all along,” according to the movie’s official description.

It appears audiences can expect lots of period costumes, potential suitors and social-class satire — not to mention frenetic violins to punctuate the soundtrack.

The Focus Features production, billed as a rambunctious “new vision” of Austen’s beloved 1815 novel, serves as the feature film debut of music video director Autumn de Wilde.

The cast also includes Anya Taylor-Joy, Johnny Flynn, Bill Nighy, Mia Goth, Miranda Hart, Josh O’Connor, Callum Turner, Rupert Graves, Gemma Whelan, Amber Anderson, Tanya Reynolds and Connor Swindells.

Austen’s tale was previously adapted for the big screen in 1996, with Gwyneth Paltrow scoring a career breakthrough in the title role. The year before, the plotline served as the inspiration for the teen classic “Clueless,” starring Alicia Silverstone.

The new “Emma” will have a limited release on Feb. 21, 2020.
