PATNA: Even as the state police are neck-deep in fighting the rising crime, Kaimur cops are trying to solve the mystery of a dead rooster.
According to the police, even an autopsy was performed on the dead rooster at the divisional veterinary hospital, which confirmed that the cause of its death as “blood-blockage on the rooster’s neck”.
The case relates to the killing of a cock from a poultry farm in Tirojpur village under Durgavati police station by a person living in the neighbourhood on the night of November 16.
The killing of the rooster lead to heated arguments between the owner of the poultry farm and the accused, which lead to a scuffle in which the accused allegedly injured the poultry farm owner Kamla Devi (45) and her son Indra Kumar (24).
Kamla lodged an FIR at Durgavati police station against eight persons on November 17. The complaint has been lodged under various sections of IPC, including Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), Section 341 (wrongful restraint), Section 347 (constrain to illegal act), Section 379 (theft), Section 429 (killing cattle), Section 447 (criminal trespass), Section 448 ( house-trespass) and Section 506 (criminal intimidation).
“The incident took place on November 16 evening when a rooster of Kamla Devi went missing from her small farm located in her residence in Tirojpur village. She found the dead rooster near her neighbour’s home. She alleged that Manoj Ram and his family members killed her rooster intentionally. She suspects that they gave poison to her bird. The final postmortem report is, however, awaited,” the additional SHO of Durgavati police station Sanjay Kumar said.
He added: “After the heated argument over the death of the rooster, Manoj’s family members allegedly broke into Kamla’s residence and thrashed the woman and her son for making false accusation.”
The police suspect old rivalry between Kamla and Manoj Ram and his family was the main reason behind the incident. Kaimur SP Dilnawaz Ahmed told this newspaper on Thursday that an FIR has been registered related to this incident and the police are investigating the matter. “No arrest has been made so far,” he added.
