PATNA: The Saran police on Friday claimed to have unravelled the mystery behind the kidnapping and subsequent murder of two minor girls following the arrest of the accused, Mohammad Firoz Nat, from Ravelganj police station area of the district.
Saran SP Har Kishore Rai said that Firoz, a resident of Ravelganj in Saran district, was arrested on the basis of a sketch of the suspect prepared by the district police on the information given by three other girls, who had managed to escape.

Altogether five girls were lured by Firoz by offering them toffees and then taken to a secluded place on November 17. Smelling a rat, three of the girls fled the spot while two were taken hostage. The next morning, the body of one of the two missing girls was found. On November 19, the body of the second girl was also recovered. “The killing of two girls belonging to the economically backward section of the society had created a fear psychosis among the residents of Bind Toli. Police swung into action and arrested the culprit,” Rai said.
Firoz, however, made an abortive attempt to commit suicide in the police lock-up after being arrested from his hideout. The cops on duty at the police station, however, foiled his suicide bid and he was rushed to the sadar hospital at Chhapra for treatment. Later Firoz confessed to the crime.
During interrogation, Firoz revealed that he had kidnapped the girls from the village with ulterior motive. He, however, didn’t admit that the girls were raped before being killed. “I killed them as they had identified me and I got suspicious of being caught by the police,” a police officer quoted Firoz as saying.
Chhapra DSP Ajay Kumar Singh said that the deceased were identified as Seema Kumari and Rani Kumar. “All the five girls were lured by the accused when they were playing outside their houses. The family members reported the matter to the police when the two girls didn’t return home,” he told this newspaper.
