Thieves break into liquor store, but what they stole wasn't alcohol
WLKY’S MARK VANDERHOFF BRINGS US MORE. MARK: BELIEVE IT OR NOT, THE THIEVES DIDN’T TAKE ANY LIQUOR. THEY TOOK A CASE OF LOTTERY TICKETS THAT STOOD RIGHT HERE. >> WELL, I PULLED UP THIS MORNING AND NOTICED ALL THE LIGHTS WERE OUT IN THE STORE. THEY HAD OBVIOUSLY CUT THE ELECTRIC. AND NOTICED THE FRONT DOOR HAD BEEN BUSTED OUT. MARK: STEVE ABRAMS DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN HE OPENED THE DOORS TO HIS LIQUOR STORE, NEXT DOOR SPIRIT SHOPPE ON NEWBURG ROAD >> IT WAS MY FULL DISPLAY OF LOTTERY TICKETS, THE DISPENSER. I HAVE A TWELVE CARD DISPENSER AND THEY JUST GRABBED THE WHOLE THING AND TOOK OFF. MARK: TWELVE DIFFERENT STYLES OF SCRATCH-OFF TICKETS HUNDREDS OF THEM. >> NOT TO MUCH AVAIL TO THEM, BECAUSE ONCE LOTTERY’S STOLEN, IT CAN’T, IT’S MARKED STOLEN AND THEY CAN’T CASH THEM. >> OBVIOUSLY, THEY WEREN’T THE BRIGHTEST BUNCH IN THE WORLD MARK: ABRAMS BELIEVES IT HAPPENED AROUND 5:10 FRIDAY MORNING, BECAUSE THAT’S WHEN HIS SECURITY CAMERAS SHUT OFF. >> WELL, WE’VE GOT A COUPLE STORES CLOSE TO US THAT HAVE OUTDOOR CAMERAS, SO HOPEFULLY WE’LL BE ABLE TO GET A LITTLE VIDEO OFF THAT, MAYBE SEE, YOU KNOW, GET A VEHICLE OR SEE A PERSON ON THE CAMERA. SEE WHAT WE CAN DO FROM THERE. MARK: SOME FRIENDS HELPED ABRAMS PATCH UP THE DOOR. >> IT’S FRUSTRATING. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN TWO MONTHS I’VE HAD MY STORE BROKEN INTO, AND YOU KNOW, I COME IN HERE DAILY, WORKING HARD, TRYING TO MAKE A LIVING, AND HAVE THIS HAPPEN, SO IT’S FRUSTRATING. Someone broke into a Louisville liquor store Friday morning, but they didn't take any alcohol.Instead, they stole a case full of scratch-off lottery tickets.The burglary happened around 5:10 a.m. at the Next Door Spirit Shoppe in the 3300 block of Newburg Road.Owner Steve Abrams knows that's when it happened because someone cut the power off, turning off his security cameras, at that time.The thief, or thieves, threw a brick threw his front door to gain entry, he said.They may have thought there was bound to be a winner among all of those tickets, but stolen tickets cannot be redeemed, Abrams said."Obviously, they weren't the brightest bunch in the world," he said.Anyone with any information can call the police department's anonymous tip line at 574-LMPD.
