Flagler traffic stop nets convicted felon on drug, weapons charges

Staff Report
Christopher Raymond

Christopher Raymond, 7 Burma Place, Palm Coast, was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; possession of ammunition by a convicted felon; possession of an electric weapon by a convicted felon; possession of methamphetamine; and possession of drug paraphernalia, jail records show.

According to an arrest report from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, Raymond was driving north on County Road 15 shortly after 2 p.m. in a white Dodge Ram pickup towing a trailer when he was pulled over by a deputy who noticed the trailer had a broken brake light.

After asking for Raymond's driver's license and registration, the deputy soon discovered that Raymond had a long list of charges dating back to 2004 and was a known sex offender and convicted felon.

The deputy called for backup. A sheriff's K-9 unit arrived and conducted an exterior sniff of the truck and trailer during which the K-9, Axle, alerted to the odor of narcotics, the report states.

Raymond was then asked to get out of the truck so that a full search could be conducted. During the search, deputies found a bolt-action .22-caliber rifle with scope; a firearm suppressor; a single magazine containing four live rounds of .22 caliber bullets and other loose bullets; a digital scale with a crystal like residue on it that tested positive for methamphetamine; a stun gun and brass knuckles in the glove box; methamphetamine; and drug paraphernalia, according to the arrest report.

Raymond told deputies the gun rifle belonged to his grandfather and he accused a man known only to him as “Archie” of “planting” the firearm in his vehicle to get him in trouble, the report states. Raymond stated that he usually leaves the rifle in his garage but that “Archie” must have put it in his truck as a way to get back at him.

Raymond could not provide further information. He remained in the Flagler County jail Friday with total bail set at $38,000.
