Doctors’ strike hits OPD services in Saran government hospitals

Out patient department (OPD) services in 20 government hospitals in the district including Chhapra sadar hospital, were hit on Friday following a strike by the district unit of Bihar State Health Services Association (BHSA) in protest against the attack on two medical officers at a referral hospital at Baniapur.

CHHAPRA: Out patient department (OPD) services in 20 government hospitals in the district including Chhapra sadar hospital, were hit on Friday following a strike by the district unit of Bihar State Health Services Association (BHSA) in protest against the attack on two medical officers at a referral hospital at Baniapur.
IMA-Bihar president and former vice-president BHSA Dr Shaligram Vishwakarma said, “Baniapur referral hospital medical officer Dr Arun Prakash Gupta and Dr Jitendra Kumar were attacked by attendants of some patients on Thursday.
The unruly crowd also damaged several equipment, including those used for measuring blood pressure and stethoscope. They also snatched the mobile phones from the doctors. The injured doctors have been admitted to the referral hospital for treatment.”
“BHSA has demanded arrest of the miscreants within 24 hours, failing which their agitation would intensify. The doctors will then go an an indefinite strike which will hit emergency services, pathology and ultra sound among others,” Dr Shaligram said.
A patient Krishna Mohan, who came to the referral hospital for medical aid had to return disappointed. “Kare koee, bhare koee (innocents have to suffer for the unruly behaviour of others),” he said.
Meanwhile, an FIR was lodged with the Baniapur police station on Dr Gupta’s statement. Saran civil surgeon Dr Madneshwar Jha also visited the hospital and met the injured doctors.
