BEGUSARAI: Begusarai police claimed to have cracked the Barauni-Thakurichak gold loot case of November 12 following the recovery of 14kg gold.
Begusarai SP Awakash Kumar said on Friday that the special investigating team (SIT) formed to crack the case recovered over 14kg of gold buried at different places in Rajaura village under the Mufassil police station area.
“The police team also recovered the motorcycle used by miscreants in the loot. All four persons involved in the loot have also been arrested,” the SP said.
The incident took place on November 12 near Thakurichak under Garhhara police station limits when the two Begusarai-based jewellers—Prince Soni and Santosh Soni— were on way to Begusarai in a car after alighting from a train at Barauni railway station. Three motorbike-borne miscreants had blocked their way and fired indiscriminately killing the driver, Dipak Kumar, on the spot and injuring the businessmen.
The SP said the breakthrough in the case came after the investigating team zeroed in on one Saurabh Kumar alias Kanchan Paswan, a resident of Gachhi Tola under the Begusarai Town police station area. “Constant mobile surveillance of suspects revealed that Kanchan played the role of an informer to the criminals. He later surrendered before a local court in a separate case and was sent to judicial custody," the SP said.
He added, “Kanchan was later taken on remand and based on the information provided by him, Akash Kumar, Rajesh Kumar and Shivam Kumar were arrested. While Akash and Rajesh are residents of Begusarai town police station area, Shivam is a resident of Rajaura village under the Mufassil police station area.”
Besides the looted gold and the motorcycle used in the crime, the police team also recovered two country-made pistols, 12 live cartridges and a mobile phone from the criminals.
