PATNA: Tension has gripped residents of Barsaliganj locality under Mujahidpur police station of Bhagalpur district following a violent clash between two rival groups on Friday morning. One person identified as Subodh Yadav have suffered serious injuries in the incident.
Police said the incident took place around 9.30 am when supporters of one Nirbhay Sah were sitting near a temple which is under construction near Basaliganj-Clubganj of the city.
The alleged henchmen of Subodh Yadav attacked Nirbhay and his accomplices with sticks and iron rods, causing injuries to some of them.
In retaliation of the murderous attack, Nirbahy’s associates pelted Subodh’s house with stones and opened fire. Police said nobody was injured in the firing. Four empty cartridges of 9 mm bore were seized from the spot when the police visited the locality after local residents informed them.
Bhagalpur ASP Sushant Kumar Saroj said that both Nirbhay and Subodh had criminal antecedents. Subodh’s elder brother Kulo Yadav was killed allegedly by the hired goons of Nirbhay in 2009. “Since then the two families living in the neghbourhood are fighting with each other to establish their supremacy,” he told this newspaper over phone.
The SHO of Mozahidpur police station Pramod Kumar said that Subodh’s another brother Rajesh Yadav is wanted by the police in connection with at least three criminal cases lodged earlier with the Muzahidpur police station. “The police had recently conducted raids in search of Rajesh but he could be arrested,” he said.
The SHO revealed that the CCTV footage was being obtained from the area to ascertain the identity of the people involved in the firing. Nirbhay, on the other hand, possessed a licensed weapon, which could have been used by him in Friday’s incident, he added.
