A six-member group allegedly sexually assaulted a minor girl, a class 11 student, and assaulted a boy, said to be her friend, in a suburb of Coimbatore.
The crime took place on November 26, when the girl and her friend were coming out of a park at Ishwarya Nagar near Seeranaickenpalayam at 8 p.m. after celebrating her birthday.
The gang took the duo to an isolated place and sexually assaulted the girl and filmed the act. They then stripped the boy and videographed him.
While T. Rahul, 21, R. Prakash, 22, S. Karthikeyan, 28, and S. Narayanamurthy, 30, from Seeranaickenpalayam were arrested on Saturday, a special team launched a search for two others, who allegedly took the lead in committing the crime.
After the assault, the girl went to the boy’s house and returned home the next day. She narrated her ordeal to her mother, who lodged a police complaint. The accused were booked under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and the Indian Penal Code. They were produced before the Mahila Court and were remanded to judicial custody. Investigating officer R. Prabhadevi told The Hindu that the survivor and her friend were not known to the accused.
