BENGALURU: Railway minister Piyush Goyal said 567 people have been killed on the railway premises — stations and on tracks — in Bengaluru division between January and September this year. He was responding to a query raised by Bengaluru Central MP PC Mohan in Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
Of the 567 deaths, the maximum were reported in Bengaluru Rural with 191, followed by Bengaluru city (151), Cantonment (123), Byappanahalli (72) and Bangarpet (30), Goyal said, based on information received from government railway police stations.

“Railways has set up an interdepartmental ‘joint committee’ comprising officers of safety, security, signal & engineering departments across all zones to study the causes and suggest specific measures to minimise deaths due to untoward incidents, including trespassing, footboard travelling and more. Accordingly, preventive and corrective measures are being taken to improve and create infrastructure to minimise casualties,” said Goyal.
No proposal yet on Metro Phase 3: Union minister
To another question by PC Mohan, Union minister of state for housing and urban affairs Hardeep Singh Puri said: “No proposal has been received from the Karnataka government for implementation of phase 3 of the Metro rail project. The state government has sent proposals for phase-2A and 2B for establishing Metro link on Outer Ring Road — from Central Silk Board Junction to KR Puram and KR Puram to the airport via Hebbal.”
