NASHIK: The National Highway Authority of India at Nashik has assured the district administration that FASTags in the physical form would be made available in Nashik city within the next two days, even as the deadline for their complete implementation has been pushed to December 15.
The NHAI authorities and the district administration were in talks with security managements at toll plazas to prepare for cashless entry at toll plazas.

“We have decided to make the FASTags available in Nashik city and other major towns of the district to ensure motorists don't face problems at toll plazas,” a senior official with the highways authority said told district officials.
The NHAI authorities added that FASTags were already available at branches of certain private and public sector banks. “All citizens have to do is carry the registration papers of their vehicles to the banks. They will then be able to get FASTags free of cost,” the officer said.
District authorities also raised the point that citizens were being charged for the cards, despite NHAI's statement that they would be given out free of charge. “The cards are free of cost until December 15. There is no sum required for registration, activation or deposit on the card,” the NHAI authorities said.
Certain petrol pumps are also selling the cards. The list of such locations will be made available on the FASTag android application that needs to be downloaded by citizens.
After downloading the application and registering their FASTag with the NHAI, motorists can then transfer funds into the card.
Similar facilities would be available at taluka headquarters and even in some villages.
