HYDERABAD: Fossilised remains of a fish that lived millions of years ago was found in NTPC area of Ramagundam on Sunday. Amateur historian Samudrala Sunil Goud also discovered several leaf and plant fossils in the area.
“Several trees, leaf and bark fossils were found in Chennur-Kotapalli forest area. In Mancherial-Jaipur area, I found the fossil of animals’ foot impressions.
In the same area, plant fossils were found across hundreds of acres. I have collected samples from these places,” Sunil told TOI.
Experts said that the plant fossil is around 10 crore years old. “The fish fossil was found in NTPC area of Ramagundam. It could be hundreds of millions of years old,” historian Sriramoju Haragopal of Telangana Jagruti said.
Earlier, the team had found fossils in Adilabad and at Telangana-Maharashtra border. “In Telangana, there is a need to conduct a detailed study on fossils. The Centre and the state should explore these areas further,” said Haragopal.
