PATNA: An Army jawan gunned down his wife and newlywed sister-in-law before shooting himself dead in his moving car near Saidabad under Rani Talab police station area in Paliganj subdivision of Patna district on Sunday. All three died on the spot.
The deceased Vishnu Kumar Sharma (34) was posted in Gujarat and belonged to Lalganj under Garhani police station area in Bhojpur district.
He had come home on leave a month back. His wife and sister-in-law were identified as Damini Sharma and Dimple Sharma respectively. The incident took place around 12 noon.
Vishnu, along with Damini and her sister Dimple, was travelling in the rear seat while his two sons Virat (8) and Vaibhav (6) were in the front seat. His relative Mithilesh Thakur was driving the car registered in Jharkhand.
According to police, Vishnu also attempted to kill the other three in the car, but they managed to flee after Thakur stopped the vehicle.
Paliganj SDPO Manoj Kumar Pandey said Dimple had got married just a week back. He said Vishnu had used his licenced pistol to shoot Dimple, Damini and himself.
Pandey said Vishnu got so angry after a heated exchange with his wife that he emptied the magazine on Dimple and Damini. “He loaded another magazine in the pistol and pumped more bullets into their bodies before finally shooting himself in the chin,” the SDPO said, adding that four live and many empty cartridges along with the pistol were recovered from the car.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that Vishnu had started behaving erratically after suffering from dengue. He used to get annoyed frequently. The family members were taking Vishnu to a doctor in Patna through Arwal when the incident took place on the way,” Pandey said.
He said police got to know that Vishnu had been to jail on four occasions on different charges, including beating police personnel in uniform. “He was sent to jail by Kotwali and Danapur police stations in Patna,” he said, adding that Vishnu was still in service.
