KPL match-fixing: CCB raids Belagavi Panthers coach’s house

On Monday, after taking a warrant from a local court, a team of 10 officials raided his house in Indiranagar at 11 am.

Bengaluru: Continuing their probe into the Karnataka Premier League (KPL) match-fixing scandal, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths raided the house of Belagavi Panthers team coach on Monday.

The CCB recovered some documents pertaining to the probe from the house of Sudhindra Shinde in Indiranagar. Shinde is a member of KSCA Managing Committee from Raichur Zone and is the coach of Karnataka U-19 cricket team.

On Monday, after taking a warrant from a local court, a team of 10 officials raided his house in Indiranagar at 11 am.

The search continued till 3 pm and the police have confiscated documents, two laptops and a pendrive from him.

Shinde is suspected to be involved in the KPL match-fixing and reportedly approached a player. The police, however, are yet to ascertain Shinde's role. The police have collected the evidence and may summon him for questioning.

So far, the CCB has arrested seven people, including Belagavi Panthers owner Ashfaq Ali Thar, celebrity drummer Bhavesh Bafna, Bengaluru Blasters player Nishant Singh Shekhawat, bowling coach Vinu Prasad and opening batsman M Vishwanathan, Bellary Tuskers captain C.M. Gautam, player Abrar Kazi and International bookie Sayyam Gulati.

While notices have been issued to KSCA and the management of 11 cricket teams seeking answers to questions that the investigation has thrown up, City Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao had said that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) within CCB has been formed to go deep into the KPL match-fixing scandal.

He had also said that bookies honey-trapped players and blackmailed them into fixing matches.
