PATNA: Two traders were shot dead by unidentified criminals in two separate incidents in Katihar and Jehanabad districts during the last 24 hours on Monday.
Reports said that Shankar Sah (52) was shot dead by motorbike-borne armed criminals at Ashiani Chowk under the Kadwa police station area in Katihar district when he was standing outside his grocery shop on Tuesday. The assailants pumped a bullet into his chest killing him on the spot.
Kadwa police station SHO Rajiv Kumar Jha said the incident took place around 1.30 pm when Sah was waiting for somebody outside his shop at Ashiani Chowk.
Two criminals riding a motorbike reached the spot and fired at Sah causing grievous injuries to him. He was rushed to the local hospital where he died during treatment.
The reason behind the murder of the shop owner is yet to be ascertained. Sources close to the deceased’s family told police that Sah used to lend money on interest. “Dispute over re-payment of loan could be one of the reasons behind the killing,” the SHO told this newspaper over phone.
In another incident, a sweets shop owner Rajni Kant Pandey alias Pawan Pandey (35) was shot dead by armed criminals near Utimpur turning under Hulasganj police station in Jehanabad district late on Monday night. Police said the incident took place when Pandey was returning to his native village Sultanpur on his motorbike after closing his shop.
Jehanabad SDPO Prashant Bhushan said on Tuesday that the deceased had an altercation with a notorious criminal Dheeraj Kumar over payment of money at the former’s shop a few hours before the incident. Dheeraj along with his associates accosted Pandey near Utimpur Mor and pumped bullets into his chest and belly killing him on the spot.
“Raids are on to nab the criminals involved in the crime. The accused are stated to be absconding after the incident,” the SDPO said adding that the assailants would be brought to book at the earliest. The murder of the sweets shop owner has created fear among the members of business community.
