SECUNDERABAD: A certain section of people are in favour of the mobile phone tower. They say the signal strength has been poor in the area and immediate steps must be taken to address the issue.
Major general K Babayya (Retd), VSM, president of the residential welfare association, who was elected in April, said: “The decision was taken at the general body meet because many residents felt the tower was needed as communication has been poor in the area.
In a country like ours there will be divided opinion, which is welcome.”
Strongly refuting the charge that the decision had been prompted because of monetary benefits, he said, “We have carefully weighed the pros and cons and will not do something that impacts the health of individuals. Having said this, we cannot satisfy every person.”
With telecom firms in the doldrums, the offers coming for setting up of the tower are a pittance, said the Major General (retd).
Backing the president’s argument, Dr (Col) C G Wilson said, “The connectivity issue is a problem. I am a doctor and get calls frequently. I have to get out of the house often to answer calls, even at the oddest of hours.”
Corinne Rodrigues, a resident who has been living in the colony for many years, said, “Not a single opposing voice was heard at the general body meeting held this Sunday. If there was a spilt among residents, there would have been much more discussion on the issue.”
