Movies and culture

Published December 5, 2019

THE revival of the Pakistani cinema has brought a cultural issue to the fore. Most movies made these days do not represent our beautiful heritage but instead they are more tailored towards the Bollywood style.

The recent examples are Yeh Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 and Na Maloom Afraad 2. The portrayal of lifestyle, dress and language, does not match Pakistani culture.

Films represent one’s country internationally. Therefore, rather than copy Bollywood, the filmmakers should focus on representing our country and its culture.

The major thing to focus on is songs (item number) in the movies to increase the number of audience. This does not depict our true culture and society.
