SECUNDERABAD: The
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has demolished the existing library in
Audiah Nagar and is constructing a new one at a cost of Rs 2.98 crore. It is likely to be operational in a few months.
“Reading at the library will be free of cost, but membership is needed to borrow books. The fee is yet to be decided,” said a GHMC official.
Civic officials are studying the model library in Siricilla to replicate the amenities and interiors.
“We have not planned a digital library yet, but books in three languages will be available. The library will have books of all genres as well as all leading newspapers in the state. The aim is to instil the habit of reading and reduce the use of smartphones,” said the official.
“The flooring and painting works have already been completed. The interiors will be done in a month,” said another civic official.
