KARACHI: Five days have passed but the police have failed to trace the whereabouts and recover the 20-year-old Dua Mangi from the custody of kidnappers. The Karachi Bar Association and Malir Bar Association on Thursday separately held protests outside the Karachi Press Club and Gulshan-e-Hadeed, demanding Dua Mangi’s recovery. Mangi’s cousin, Keenjhar Sindhu as well as political and social activists also joined the bar associations in the protest. They demanded the immediate safe recovery of the Dua Mangi. “This is the second major similar incident to have occurred in six months in DHA,” said advocate Javed Sangi who led the protest at the KPC. “If the police had tackled Bisma’s kidnapping case properly this kidnapping would not have happened.”

The protesters also demanded strict action against the suspects who kidnapped Mangi and injured her friend Haris Soomro during the abduction. She was kidnapped on Saturday night by four to five armed men from near a restaurant at Bara Bukhari in Phase VI, DHA. The desperate family of Dua Mangi has warned that if she is not recovered they will hold a sit-in outside the Sindh Chief Minister House likely on Friday (today). “We had given a 48-hour deadline to the authorities during our sit-in at Teen Talwar,” Dua Mangi’s cousin, Keenjhar Sindhu told The News. “Now, the deadline has passed and law enforcement departmenet has failed to recover her.” She warned that the family, alongside the civil society and people from different walks of life is likely to hold a sit-in outside the Sindh chief minister house on Friday. “Five days have been passed but Dua has not returned, Keenjhar Sindhu told The News. “We are not satisfied with the investigations who have clearly failed.” Meanwhile, she rejected the news about any ransom demand being made by the kidnappers for Dua’s release.

On the other hand, the police have sought the assistance from citizens in helping trace the kidnappers.

In a press release issued on Thursday, the senior police officials sought the help from citizens about Mangi’s recovery. The police spokesperson added the investigation into the case is underway from different angles. “So far about a dozen people have been included in investigations,” he said. “The Police and CPLC is investigating this case while keeping the previous similar cases of kidnapping in view and expected Mangi to be recovered soon,” the police statement said.
