SECUNDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has planned to repair 70 km of arterial roads in Secunderabad zone as part of a comprehensive road maintenance project (CRMP) and a private agency has already been roped in to start the work from December 10.
The civic body will re-carpet a total of 107 km of roads of which 70 km includes stretches in Sainikpuri, Tarnaka, Moulali, Lalapet, Begumpet, Marredpally, among others. Among major stretches identified in Secunderabad zone are 6.90 km route from Hyderabad Public School in Begumpet to Rail Nilayam in Alugaddabavi including three flyovers — Paradise, YMCA and Prakash Nagar.
The 4km stretch from Sainikpuri junction to Trimulgherry junction covering RK Puram flyover, 3 km from Lalapet flyover to Life Spring Hospital, 2.5 kms from Shenoy Nursing Home to Lalaguda railway station are also included in the list.

“The agency appointed to undertake the comprehensive road maintenance project has to re-carpet 50% of their allotted stretch before May 2020. Apart from road repair works, the agency also has to maintain the main carriageway as well as greenery on medians and pavements,” said a GHMC official from the engineering wing.
However, some of the roads that are included in the comprehensive road maintenance project were repaired early this year and need no re-carpeting. For example, 1.6 km stretch from Moulali Kammam to Green Hills Colony was re-carpeted in March and 2.1 km stretch from Mirjalguda X roads to RK Nagar RUB was repaired in January this year.
“The GHMC should instead look at areas such as Alwal, Bolarum and Yapral where some of the colonies don’t even have proper roads. Infact, a few stretches mentioned as part of comprehensive road maintenance project are in good condition,” said Pravin Jakka, a resident of Yapral.
