Amit Shah has announced the government’s plan to set up an
all-India police university and forensic science university while addressing the 54th annual conference of directors general and inspectors general (DGs/IGs) of police in the city.
These universities will have affiliated colleges in the states, Shah said while underscoring the government’s resolve to initiate changes in the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) to make them more conducive towards the current democratic set up, an official release issued by the PIB on Saturday night stated.
Shah termed the annual conference as a “Vaicharik Kumbh”, wherein the top policemen of the country come together on one platform and formulate policy decisions pertaining to national security.
The Union home minister also awarded trophies for best police stations to the station house officers of Aberdeen (Andaman & Nicobar Islands), Balasinore (Gujarat) and AJK Burhanpur (Madhya Pradesh).
Sofar, theconference has deliberated on a gamut of policing and security issues, including border protection, the linkage of narcotics and terrorism, upgradation offorensic capability, threat from radicalisation in the digital era, and evidence-based policing.
